Online counseling for expats

With Vladica Vulin, MA Psychologist | In English and Serbian

Maybe you’re still getting used to your life in a new country. Work is exhausting, things with your partner have become difficult, or you’re wondering who you are now that so much around you has changed.

You may also be happy with your decision to move and still miss parts of your old life. Or you know what you wanted from moving abroad, but you’re finding it difficult to build that life.

These are some of the things we can explore in counseling.

What we can work on

Adjusting to life abroad

Getting used to unfamiliar routines, finding your way around a different system, and missing the ease of knowing how things work.

Loneliness, friendships, and belonging

Missing people who know you well, trying to build new friendships, or feeling like an outsider even after you’ve lived somewhere for a while.

Relationship difficulties while living abroad

How life abroad is affecting your relationship, what has become difficult between you and your partner, and what you need. We explore this in individual sessions.

Work stress and burnout abroad

What has become too much at work, how it affects the rest of your life, and what you would like to change.

Feeling like yourself after moving abroad

You may feel different away from the people and places you know. We can talk about what has changed since moving and what still feels like you.

Homesickness and visits back home

Missing parts of your old life, even when you’re happy abroad. What it feels like to visit home, and what comes up when you leave again.

Building a life abroad that feels right for you

What you hoped moving would bring, what matters to you now, and what would make your everyday life closer to the life you want.

You can also reach out before moving abroad to talk about the decision, what you hope for, and what feels difficult about leaving.

How I work

You can expect support, understanding, and curiosity about what you tell me. I want to understand how you think and deal with things, so I can get to know you better.

We decide together what to work on. I ask questions, share what I’ve noticed, and check whether I’ve understood you correctly. You can tell me if something doesn’t feel helpful or you need a different pace. Before suggesting something to try, I want to understand what happens for you in that situation and what you’ve already tried. Sometimes we work through a difficult situation or practise a conversation. We talk about whether what we try is helping.

I’m an MA Psychologist, and I also practise integrative psychotherapy under clinical supervision. Read more about me and my approach.

Your first session

We start with what brought you to counseling and what you would like help with. You don’t need to have it all clearly worked out before we meet.

I’ll ask about your situation and what you would like to be different. I’ll also explain confidentiality, supervision, and how the sessions work.

Toward the end, I’ll share what I’ve understood, and we’ll discuss what we could focus on first. We don’t have to decide everything in the first session. We can begin with what matters most to you and return to other things as we get to know each other.
